panOpticon is an information management system that enables researchers to collect, process, manage and share data needed to maintain an artist’s legacy and to value a work of fine art in the marketplace.
Roger Shepherd, Founder & CEO - Roger has been an artist, educator, and fine art scholar for over 40 years and is one of the foremost experts in digital Catalogues Raisonné.
panOpticon was looking for a team that 1) had the expertise to help him stabilize, scale and evolve the platform to support a subscription-based SaaS business; 2) could be a thought-partner in transforming his business model to be more financially sustainable; and 3) had an understanding of the complexities of the fine art industry. FT was able to meet all of these needs for panOpticon, and over time has helped them meet additional milestones, such as fundraising and navigating merger and acquisition offers.

FT worked with panOpticon to initially create a “Founder’s Blueprint”, an analysis of the problem the company is trying to solve, its users, where the company currently stands, where it needs to go to better solve the identified problem for those users, and a clear roadmap for how to get there. We then took the Blueprint and have worked with Roger and Susannah to create a centrally-managed, high availability platform that is more stable and scalable, and that supports a subscription-based business model that generates 5x more revenue per client as well as a growing customer base. One of the key achievements of our work with the panOpticon team was to dramatically increase the security of the platform, and to implement functionality that made it possible to automate many tasks that Susannah previously had to do manually, enabling her to become vastly more efficient and better able to support their expanded set of customers. As a result, the formerly manual process of creating a catalogue that used to take days now takes a matter of minutes.
